The American Bar Association defines litigation as “a process for handling disputes in the court system,” specifically for a “contested action. This can occur for many facets of day-to-day life.
- Slip-and-fall: These types of accidents can happen in a variety of ways. - The total medical costs for falls in 2015 added up to more than $50 billion, of which Medicare and Medicaid covered about 75% of the cost (leaving about $12.5 billion for the victims to handle).
- Dog bite: California law states that a dog’s owner is liable for damages done to a victim from a dog bite. The victim must lawfully be in a public or private place to be a victim. In 2018, California had nearly 2,400 dog bite claims with an average cost per claim of just over $45,000.
